Gerakan Youth has urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the culprits to book speedily without fear or favour, regarding leakage of defence secrets.
Gerakan Youth vice-president Liang Teck Meng said those involved have put the nation and people at risk.
“National security must never be compromised and the continuous problems that plagued our defence ministry lately must not be treated lightly,” he said in a statement.
Liang, who is also Member of Parliament for Simpang Renggam, was commenting on the disclosure by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that Malaysian Armed Forces personnel have been selling national secrets to certain foreign embassies in Kuala Lumpur.
Zahid wanred that stern action would be taken against those responsible as leaking national secrets was a serious crime.
Liang said the security procedure must be tightened and personnel’s integrity must be scrutinized.
He said if evidence revealed the involvement of foreign embassy, strong diplomatic action must be taken to protect the nation’s interest and reputation.
“Gerakan Youth is shocked to learn that defence secrets have been leaked. The act of selling defence secrets by our armed forces personnel to foreign embassies is an act of traitor.
He said a stern warning was clearly insufficient to punish the traitors and to deter the rest from committing the same despicable act.
