Block BPN aid for MCO offenders – Gerakan

Apr 23, 2020

KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) suggested that the government should impose a block on Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN) cash aid to those found guilty of violating the Movement Control Order (MCO).

Its President, Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said, the government should consider a more effective solution to stop the increment of MCO offenders during its third phase implementation.

He said, as of yesterday, the total number of people who have violated the MCO was 17,735 individuals. Meanwhile, 1,236 have been charged in court. This, that is a serious matter.

“To avoid the increment of clusters, Gerakan suggests for the MCO period to be extended in several red zones if there is an increment of active Covid-19 cases until 28 April.

“Meanwhile, those allowed to return to the cities must practice personal hygiene and preventive measures to avoid the risk of infection,” he said in a statement today.

According to Dominic, the increment of active clusters in several zones and districts in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Pahang shows the needs to amplify control and monitoring.

“This includes the 15 cluster cases in Pengerang,” he said.

“Therefore, Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia highly hope that the government can consider tougher and sterner actions against those who defy MCO,” he added.
