Melaka Polls: Gerakan says it accepts defeat

Nov 21, 2021

MELAKA: Gerakan respects the will of the people in choosing Barisan Nasional to form the state government, says Datuk Seri Gan Peng Lam.

The Melaka Gerakan chairman said they accepted the defeat gracefully and would continue to serve the people despite not securing any seats.

“We congratulate Barisan for its landslide victory and hope it serves the people effectively,” he said on Saturday (Nov 20).

Gan contested in the Ayer Keroh seat. Others candidates in the polls were B. Dhanesh (Asahan), Clarice Chan Ming Wang (Banda Hilir), Fong Khai Ling (Kota Laksamana) and Patrick Ng Chin Kae (Kesidang).

All Gerakan candidates contested under the Perikatan Nasional banner.

Perikatan also suffered a blow when two heavyweights, Parti Bersatu Pribumi Malaysia’s Melaka chairman Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen and Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin, lost the Telok Mas and Tanjung Bidara state seats respectively.
