IPOH: Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong Choo Kiong is welcome to join Gerakan but he should settle his court case first, says the Perak party chairman.

Datuk See Tean Seng said everyone can join if they agree with the party’s ideology.

However, See said that Yong did not make contact with Gerakan at the state level.

“If there are any contacts made, it should be with our headquarters.

“But I hope he settles his court case first. He should know, ” See said during a press conference here on Sunday (July 12).

“Our doors are always open, ” he added.

Yong had reportedly said that he had received invitations to join several political parties.

Yong, Buntong assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam and Titi Serong assemblyman Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim had declared themselves as independents following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan state government in March.

Sivasubramaniam, formerly of DAP, had joined Gerakan last month.

Separately, See said the party could contest in more state and parliamentary seats in the next general election.

“We have identified several constituencies.

“We could possibly go all out in the Kinta Valley, ” he said.

In the 14th General Election, Gerakan contested the Beruas, Taiping and Teluk Intan parliamentary seats as well as the Aulong, Jalong and Canning state seats.

On whether they would also let the third-termed incumbent, Sivasubramaniam stand in Buntong again, See said it was still too early to confirm it but there is a possibility.

“I think he is still capable and young. There’s potential and chance, ” he said.
