Technician seeks help taking care of disabled family members

Sep 6, 2020

IPOH: An electrical technician hopes to get aid to ease his financial burden as he not only has to support his own family but his two disabled brothers as well.

Lee Chee Wai, 51, who also has a disabled daughter, said his brothers Chee Kwong, 52, and Chee Hong, 48, were born with disability.

“While Chee Hong is able to walk on his own, Chee Kwong needs help to get around.

“They have health issues that require medication, supplements and special diets

“I spend between RM4,000 and RM4,500 a month on them, and I barely have enough for my wife and children,” Chee Wai told reporters at his house in Taman Ipoh here yesterday.

The father of two said his 17-year-old disabled daughter attended a special school while his elder child, who is 20, was still studying.

“My wife works as a bookkeeper in a local shop.

“It’s really hard for us but we are trying our best to make ends meet,” said Chee Wai.

Perak Gerakan complaints and community service bureau chief Chek Kwong Weng said he assisted Chee Wai to apply for allowances from the Welfare Department.

“Chee Wai has been taking care of his brothers without receiving any aid.

“Since the brothers are disabled, they should be entitled to welfare aid and disability cards.

“Hopefully, their applications will be approved so that it will help lessen Chee Wai’s burden,” Chek said.
