Press Release

“Wake Up, get your priorities right and fight COVID-19, DAP told”

Jan 7, 2021

  1. At a time when Covid-19 figures are rising dangerously and the threat of a movement control order hovers over Penang, the DAP appears to have its priorities focused elsewhere.
  2. Gerakan vice-president, Baljit Singh today questioned the party’s attention on projects which have not been sanctioned by the Federal Government for Penang, and its call for a signature campaign to reinstate the said projects.
  3. “It looks like it’s all about politics and not fighting Covid-19 with the DAP,” Baljit said.
  4. “Even Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow seems to have made time to attend a press conference which was nothing but recycled statements, instead of looking into more urgent matters like the spread of the pandemic in Penang.”
  5. At a time when the nation’s human and financial resources should be directed in flattening the Covid-19 curve, we have people who are bitter and self-serving, and intent on spreading hate and confusing the Penang people.
  6. It is really pointless for DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to bring up issues that are no longer under his purview.
  7. He should simply leave it to Chow to sort out any and all outstanding and pressing issues with the Federal Government since Chow is the rightful chief minister of Penang for 7 days of the week and not sharing his seat or power with anyone else.
  8. If news reports and press statements are to be believed that the ambitious undersea tunnel plan will be financed by a supposed white knight, then it should no longer be an issue. The state can go ahead with its plans without further delay.
  9. The same goes with all the other 3 infrastructure projects which the DAP claims have been cancelled owing to “political vengeance .”
  10. Please wake up and ask yourselves why you did not push for these projects harder before or secure the necessary funding and approvals. Instead, everyone has remained deluded and did not even push hard or fast enough.
  11. For now, please get your priorities right … we have a big war in the form of the pandemic to fight. No one is interested in your vanity projects and only want to stay healthy, keep their jobs, adapt to the new normal and move on with life.
