KUALA LUMPUR – Racial politics must stop as it could hamper national development and progress, said the President of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai.
Dominic agreed with the suggestion from Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who urged for the racial politics in the multi-racial nation to be ended.
“He (Muhyiddin) believes that the biggest problem faced by Malaysia is racial politics.
“Racial statements and actions made by certain politicians from time to time often create greater gaps among ethnic groups and created misunderstandings among the different ethnic groups,” he said in a statement today.
Dominic said, the policy of Gerakan has always been fair to all regardless of their race.
He also hoped that the Prime Minister would be fair to all ethnics to ensure that all Malaysians can share the prosperity and success of the country.
Dominic also said that social equality is the main issue to achieve social justice and racial politics would scrap off the opportunities and rights of other ethnic groups to participate in the community and economy.
Furthermore, the discourse on racial politics is getting more serious and it worsens the differences among Malaysians and rips apart the relationship between the people from different ethnic, he said.
